The Best Neighborhoods to Stay in Sardinia – Pros & Cons
The main reason why vacationers choose to stay in Sardinia is because of its beaches, which are some of the best in the Mediterranean… and maybe in the entire world.
So, if you’re looking to give the island a shot, you’ll need to decide where to stay. And while the area is pretty large, I believe 3 places stand out. Have a look:
THE BEST Area to Stay in Sardinia for Beaches: Chia
Chia is a small, cute haven located in the southernmost part of Sardinia. Located near Cagliari, you can easily reach it via bus or car, and it boasts some incredible beaches, of course; however, that’s not the main reason I believe it is the best place for beaches.
Obviously, the beachfront of Chia is stunning, but there’s more to it. There, you will find fewer tourists than in larger towns, which is for sure pretty rare and convenient. Also, you will have access to plenty of water sports and fun activities, whilst staying in peaceful scenery, surrounded by nature and its greenery.
Nevertheless, be wary that, if you are looking for buzzing nightlife, you won’t find it in Chia, but rather in bigger cities like Cagliari or Alghero.
Exceptional beachfront
Water sports
Fewer tourists
No real nightlife
Where to Stay in Chia
So, you’ve decided to stay in Chia for its beaches, which I totally understand. In case you need help narrowing down the best accommodations in the city, I have made a selection of the 3 best ones, sorted by budget:
✅ Best Hotel: Casa vacanze Richi&Michi Chia
This place is definitely a hidden gem, and you should book it before it becomes too popular.
For such low pricing, you will live in an incredible hotel, situated in a quiet part of nature. However, the beaches are mere minutes away, and the hosts are both helpful and caring.
✨ Luxury Choice: Faro Capo Spartivento
If you just want to take your next holiday in Sardinia to the next level and are looking for a luxurious hotel, waste no more time: the Faro Capo Spartivento is nothing but exceptional.
This hotel boasts a stunning location: it is sat atop a rock, right by the seaside, and gazes at the horizon.
💰 Budget Pick: B&B I Colori di Chia
For those of you looking for the best value for money in Chia, I give you the B&B I Colori di Chia.
As its name suggests, it is definitely pretty colorful. Besides, it offers lovely views of the quiet village and is located right next to a supermarket, restaurants and, of course, the beach.
Runner up Best Place to Stay in Sardinia for Beaches: Ogliastra
Ogliastra is a pretty unknown yet fantastic region in the central east part of Sardinia. Don’t worry though, the beaches are absolutely amazing, and you won’t regret staying there: actually, there are few tourists in this area, so if you can reach it, definitely consider this region.
If you are one of those more adventurous or relaxed kinds of travelers, then this region is for you. It is peaceful, and wild and features incredible secluded beaches such as the super famous Cala Goloritzé. So whether you’d like to go on a hike or simply rest on the beach, Ogliastra has what you need.
Moreover, because it is less popular than in other regions, not only does it mean that no one will ever bother you, but also that you will get great value for your money.
Remote beaches
Great value for money
Few tourists
Some beaches are hard to reach
Not much to do
Where to Stay in Ogliastra
Did I convince you of how great the wild region of Ogliastra and its remote beaches are? I’m happy I did, you won’t regret it! And if you want the best hotels depending on your budget, here they are:
✅ Best Hotel: B&B I Cinque Mori
Although the region of Ogliastra is pretty wide, the B&B I Cinque Mori is for sure the best hotel you can find there. With a near-perfect rating out of several hundreds of reviews, it is just amazing.
There, you will enjoy a unique experience and eat tasty breakfasts while listening to jazz and will live in a modern and comfortable interior.
✨ Luxury Choice: Villa Bianca
For the most luxurious and comfortable stay in Ogliastra, Villa Bianca is the way to go.
Featuring a nice jacuzzi and an incredible outdoor area with palm trees, this villa has it all. The views are equally breathtaking, and the host is very nice.
💰 Budget Pick: NAUTILUS – monolocale seminterrato con finestre
If you are traveling to Sardinia on a budget, you could spend a lot of time looking for affordable accommodation, even in a less crowded region such as Ogliastra. Don’t worry though, this hotel is perfect.
The apartment is spacious and modern, and it offers a lovely garden. Awesome!
Alternative Choice: La Maddalena
Last but not least on this list is La Maddalena, an archipelago located in the northern part of Sardinia. Actually, if you are only looking for the beaches without caring about the other perks, this might even be the best pick for you, as the seaside is paradisiacal!
If you are looking to stay in La Maddalena, there are plenty of fantastic areas, although the main city of the archipelago, also named La Maddalena, is the most popular one. This area is particularly romantic and is the ideal getaway for a dreamy holiday by the beach.
What I love most about La Maddalena is the fact that it is a natural reserve where the marine ecosystem is respected and untouched. The vegetation is beautiful, and there are tons of stunning natural landscapes.
Natural reserve
Exceptional landscapes
Boat rides
Quiet area
Only for off-season
Where to Stay in La Maddalena
The archipelago of La Maddalena is an incredible, unspoiled area featuring absolutely incredible beaches. If you want to stay there, I bet you’ll need a hotel; and these are my 3 favorite ones in the area:
✅ Best Hotel: Excelsior
The Excelsior is definitely the best hotel in La Maddalena. It features an immaculately clean interior as well as spacious rooms and boasts magnificent architecture.
On top of that, it is located right in the middle of the harbor of the main town of the archipelago, giving you direct access to the ferries and boats!
✨ Luxury Choice: Hotel Cala Lunga
If you want a comfortable and memorable holiday in a natural reserve, the Hotel Cala Lunga is the way to go.
Located on the beachfront, this accommodation offers a fully equipped, private portion of the beach, modern equipment, and magnificent swimming pools. Incredible!
💰 Budget Pick: Hotel Villa Marina
Lastly, if you are traveling on a tight budget, the Hotel Villa Marina should do the trick. Located right next to the center of La Maddalena, the main town of the archipelago, it serves excellent breakfasts each morning and offers loads of parking spots.
Besides, the staff will help you with whatever demand you may have, and they are both caring and smiling.
