Best Place to Stay in Rhodes Island for First-Timers: Lindos

Rhodes Town is the overall best place on the island, but that doesn’t mean other areas are not worth staying in or visiting. Take Lindos for instance: it is one of the most beautiful villages on the island and is situated on the eastern coast of Rhodes.

This village is one of the most popular destinations for travelers based across all of the island, and for good reasons: situated on a hill in the shadow of an old castle, it overlooks a pristine sand beach and, of course, the gorgeous sea.

I personally think it’s a particularly good place to stay for the first time because it is not too crowded but still offers the fantastic landscapes and activities you are most likely looking for when traveling to Rhodes.

While Lindos is one of the best places to go in Rhodes, it can be very complicated for you to find decent accommodation, at least one that fits your needs budget-wise. Because of this, here are my top 3 personal choices in the village:

Set in a dreamy, remote location, Casita Casita Lindos is one of my favorite hotels in all of the village. It is situated in a peaceful area and is surrounded by magnificent olive trees that will truly make you feel like you are in Greece.

However, just because it is so isolated doesn’t mean that you will lack anything, because the accommodation is fully equipped with anything you would ever need, including a fantastic outdoor swimming pool!

💰 Budget Pick: Vlycha Beach Apartments

Usually, when you are looking for decently comfortable yet affordable accommodation in such a busy place as the island of Rhodes, you would be in trouble, because such a place is often impossible to find. I have made the hard work for you though, and found this beautiful little gem: the Vlycha Beach Apartments!

The Atlantica Imperial Resorts is probably one of the best places to stay not just in Kolymbia, but in the entirety of Rhodes! While the island of Rhodes is overall very pricey, and so is Ialyssos, it is still the most affordable area.

Finding a relaxing spot in such a touristic and busy area as Rhodes can be a tough task. With all the activities, beautiful areas, and incredible beaches all across the island, there is nearly no interesting spot close enough to everything but still peaceful… except for Kalathos!

Both a small resort town and a traditional village, Kalathos has one of the longest yet most quiet beaches on all of the island of Rhodes, making it the perfect spot for relaxation! I have to say that most travelers are looking to visit the most touristic and beautiful areas, have a good time on the sunny beaches, and try the tons of activities that Rhodes has to offer.

However, if you are anything like me, you also want to have a peek at what the local culture is like, and what it feels like to live just like an authentic Rhodian. Well, if you’re also into that, I can only recommend Lardos, a beautiful and sunny village on the southeastern coast of Rhodes.

As authentic as it feels like, Lardos still has tons of great hotels and resorts for you; and, you guessed it, here are my 3 main picks:

✅ Best Hotel: Lardos Bay

Lardos Bay is an excellent choice for a contained little getaway. With 4 fully air-conditioned buildings, you can escape into well-kept rooms for a break and then go back out to enjoy the multiple pools, with separate options for adults and children!

This hotel offers good value for your money, where you can relax and unwind for a luxurious vacation without spending too much for your trip. With incredible staff to keep your stay as pleasurable as possible, you won’t have to worry about missing out on relaxing time.

✨ Luxury Choice: Lindos Princess Beach Hotel

If you are one of these travelers who fly to the island of Rhodes for partying and nightlife, but still want a large hotel or resort to do it all for you, I think you should go for the Lindos Princess Beach Hotel. Don’t worry though, it is still a very solid pick even if you’re not looking to go out at night.

This accommodation has it all: it has a wide variety of bars spread throughout the complex, has amazing facilities, and offers tons of activities, both during the day and the night!

💰 Budget Pick: Mandorla Apartments

To be completely honest with you, I don’t remember finding such an affordable accommodation placed in such a perfect area as Lardos than the Mandorla Apartments.

These very cheap apartments will fill your every need despite their price, and I’m sure you will love relaxing on the beach and exploring the areas surrounding Lardos from a comfy and fully-equipped apartment.

Stegna

Stegna is a beach resort perfect for families and travelers seeking relaxation.

Situated 500 m / 1,600 ft away from the village of Archangelos, it is another great option for the local vibe. In fact, it is one of the most popular bathing areas for Rhodians because of how beautiful and calm it is.

However, I truly believe that it is a great place to stay if you are traveling as a family or simply want to relax; while there are not that many activities on-site, you don’t always need them to spend a great trip!

Where to Stay in Stegna

Overall, the accommodations in Stegna are smaller than those of other places such as Lindos or Rhodes Town, and there are mostly rooms to rent, but don’t worry, here are some 3 great options:

✅ Best Hotel: Porto Angeli

Porto Angeli is one of the rare hotels in Stegna, and it is also your best overall option. It is a beautiful hotel complex with great staff, spacious and comfortable rooms, as well as well-maintained verdant gardens.

The views from this accommodation are also stunning, whether they are of the mountain or the sea. There is even a private portion of the beach and a private swimming pool if you so desire! So tell me, what are you waiting for?

✨ Luxury Choice: Casa di Mare Stegna

As you know, there aren’t that many luxurious options in Stegna, but the Casa di Mare Stegna is arguably the best of them. It is set on a remote hill, in a quiet area, not even a minute away from the beach! There is even an outdoor shower, a large and sunny terrace, and a grilling spot.

The interior of the house has nothing to be ashamed of, considering how spacious and tastefully decorated it is.

💰 Budget Pick: Stegna Sea & Sun

Lastly, if you want the most affordable yet comfortable accommodation in Stegna, you should definitely pick Stegna Sea & Sun.

For a very affordable price, this studio is ideally located right on a sandy beach, and the host will help you with anything you could ever need each day.

Pefkos

Pefkos, also known as Pefki, is a small village situated about an hour away from the capital Rhodes Town. It is on the east coast of the island and is a great choice if what you are looking for is nightlife, but also a peaceful beach holiday and a relaxing stay among pine trees.

For more adventurous travelers, there is also a scuba diving school, which is one of the most unique and fantastic activities you could try. There are lots of great restaurants, mostly near the beach with awesome views of the Aegean Sea.

Where to Stay in Pefkos

Believe it or not, for such a small village, Pefkos is home to tons of hotels, villas, and apartments, and it can be difficult to choose from them, but I made it easy for you, so enjoy:

✅ Best Hotel: George Beach Studios

There is no better place in all of Pefkos than the George Beach Studios. This accommodation is made of independent apartments located only 3 minutes away from the beach and is surrounded by lush gardens, on top of having free parking spots.

These studios are simply yet smartly furnished, their interior is stunning and they are fully equipped with everything you could ever wish for, so go ahead and pick them!

✨ Luxury Choice: Eagles Nest

For a luxurious stay in Pefkos, my go-to is Eagles Nest, a fantastic hotel with an airport shuttle, a stunning outdoor swimming pool, splendid balconies, and a modern interior.

There is even an on-site bar and a restaurant, as well as free parking spots, a jacuzzi in some rooms, and a wide, sunny balcony!

💰 Budget Pick: Pefki Islands

While it is not the cheapest hotel in Pefki, I truly believe Pefki Islands is a great choice for a budget-friendly stay, as it will offer amazing value for your money.

This hotel has car rental services, a beautiful balcony in most rooms, sunny outdoor areas and, of course, a large swimming pool for everyone to enjoy. This way, you are certain to enjoy Pefkos’ best.

Vlycha

Vlycha, sometimes spelled as Vlicha, is a small beach village right next to Lindos. It is characterized by its long beach and its many, many sunbeds that are nearly always occupied, as well as its beautiful coastline, perfect for sunbathing and swimming.

If you want to stay at the beach in a less busy area than Lindos, then you could definitely head to Vlycha. It is a great compromise in the sense that although there are still lots of people, it is not centrally located and is so wide that you can definitely enjoy some private space. As a matter of fact, this is what most locals do, instead of staying in Lindos, which is way too crowded for them.

Where to Stay in Vlycha

So you decided to pick Vlycha over the neighboring Lindos or other areas of the island? In that case, these are the 3 hotels you should be mostly looking for:

✅ Best Hotel: Lindos Bay Hotel

The Lindos Bay Hotel sure is luxurious, but it is also the best accommodation in all of Vlycha, and I am adamant about it.

Situated on the beachfront, it has all you need, from a beautiful swimming pool if you don’t like the sand or salty water, to plenty of facilities and an incredible view of the sea from the comfort of your own room.

✨ Luxury Choice: Villa Vrachos

If you need another fancy villa, you should go for Villa Vrachos, a stunning accommodation with breathtaking views, a clean and well-designed interior, and comfortable beds.

Besides, the staff will do anything they can for you, and the villa is ideally located in a quiet area.

💰 Budget Pick: Villa Jimmy, Pilona Village

Similarly to that of Pefki, this budget pick isn’t the absolute cheapest one, but a fantastic option for a great quality/money ratio.

This villa is an entire house with all the equipment you could hope for, is made with traditional white walls and bricks, is spacious enough for an entire family, and has its own wide, sunny terrace.

Monolithos

Just in case you weren’t satisfied with all of my traditional villages, let me give you another one: Monolithos!

Set in an isolated, paradisiac area, this village is made of whitewashed courtyards with beautiful flowers and stone houses, truly a typical Greek village. What is most interesting about it is the heavy wind that usually blows there, making it the ideal destination for any kind of water sports!

There is also a medieval castle in the village, and it is of course surrounded by typical, beautiful pine trees. If you are worried about not finding souvenirs, there are still some shops, but what I would do if I were you is to try the local food products.

Where to Stay in Monolithos

While I’m sure you’ll love staying in Monolithos as a whole, you’ll still need to pick a hotel for your trip, so go ahead and choose one of these:

✅ Best Hotel: Thomas Hotel

Although there aren’t that many accommodations in Monolithos, some of them clearly stand out. And the best of them has to be the Thomas Hotel.

These studios are well furnished, very spacious, fairly affordable, and impeccably clean. Overall, a very solid choice with a warm welcome from the hosts.

✨ Luxury Choice: Limeri Traditional Guest House

There isn’t any very luxurious and typical fancy resort in the small village of Monolithos, so my luxury choice will be the Limeri Traditional Guest House, a beautiful building fully made of apparent stone walls.

There are also great options such as a jacuzzi on the balcony, which gives a very cozy feeling and has a magical atmosphere.

💰 Budget Pick: Petasos Apartments

Although most hotels in Monolithos are very affordable, if you truly want my favorite budget-friendly pick for this village, there it is!

The Petasos Apartments are spacious for such a price, and the owners are caring and nice. The area is very quiet and peaceful, and the beds are wonderful, on top of having a large swimming pool; and trust me, for a budget pick, that is pretty rare.

Gennadi

Last but definitely not least is Gennadi, a small village resort with magnificent pink villas as well as futuristic structures and beach bars: a grand mix of lots of different styles for some great diversity!

Gennadi is also a major hotspot for surfers, and it is slowly but steadily becoming more and more popular because of that, so you should enjoy the peacefulness while you can. Where there used to be only old-school houses are now trendy residences and hotels, but for now, it remains an interesting blend of cultures, which is why I love this village so much.

Where to Stay in Gennadi

Sure, the houses of Gennadi are great and all, but not all of them can be rented, unfortunately. These 3 can though, so go ahead:

✅ Best Hotel: Atlantica Dreams Resort

The Atlantica Dreams Resort is an absolutely wonderful hotel that you will find in Gennadi. Its interior is spotlessly clean, it is tastefully decorated and it is fully equipped.

In such a large hotel complex, you will find everything you need, from the multitudes of swimming pools to various activities (archery, movie night, yoga, darts, and so on). There are also several on-site restaurants, beautiful views from the room, and even a water park!

✨ Luxury Choice: Luxury Rhodes Villa Maria Kiotari

Located right on the beachfront, the Luxury Rhodes Villa Maria Kiotari is an unusually beautiful hotel, with a mix between old-school (but comfortable) furniture and very modern decoration with spotlessly clean and wide rooms.

It is very bright, only several minutes away from the beach, and is an entire villa with 5 rooms, 5 bathrooms, and of course a fantastic view of the sea.

💰 Budget Pick: Southern Dreams Apartments

It is definitely not easy to find affordable accommodation in Gennadi, but the Southern Dream Apartments will do just fine.

This place is ideally located in a peaceful area, has comfortable beds, is cozy, and is well-equipped. Overall, a very solid choice for a great trip to the wonderful island of Rhodes!

Where not to stay in Rhodes?

In my opinion, there is no place in Rhodes that you shouldn’t stay in if you like everything, except maybe for the center of the island where not much happens and you can’t do any activities; but some people like that!

However, you should learn about the island before picking your destination, as spending a relaxing trip in a bustling area with plenty of nightlife activities will definitely not make you happy, so be careful with that.
