Where Are the Cheap Places to Stay in Mykonos, Greece?
Island hopping in Greece, especially in Mykonos is quite expensive. You’re going to spend a lot on accommodation. Paying around 500€ per night for 2 people is pretty usual, and it can get even more expensive.
In general, the island isn’t the best place to go when you’re on a tight budget. The infinity of luxury hotels and villas with private swimming pools, spas and beaches make it a famous destination for jet setters and celebrities, which makes the prices go up quite a bit.
However, if you feel that going to Mykonos is really what you want to do, there are a few budget options on the island. There’s not really a cheaper area, but in Mykonos Town, there are a few cheaper options. And if you follow all the advice I’m going to give you, you should be able to visit Mykonos on a budget.
How to Find Cheap Accommodation in Mykonos Greece
To find cheap places to stay in Mykonos, there are a couple factors you need to consider.
First, book in advance. You should also be looking at apartments or villas instead of hotels. Traveling off-season is also something that will greatly impact the price of your accommodation.
1. Book in advance: This is probably the most important of the 3. And when I say book in advance, I mean really in advance. If you book your accommodation 6 to 8 months in advance, not only will you get better deals, but you’ll also have a lot more choice. And, as you might expect, cheap accommodation is what gets full the fastest. So make your plans in advance, and be sure that the first thing you do when you start planning everything is to book your apartment or villa. This way you’ll easily find the cheapest place to visit Mykonos.
2. Forget hotels: Another point that will have a great impact on the cost of your trip is the type of accommodation you’ll book. Hotels tend to be more comfortable and offer more services, but they are also the most expensive, usually by far. To cut down on costs, I recommend you book an apartment or a villa, depending on the size of your group. Not only are they cheaper, but they’ll also let you cut down on other costs such as food, since you’ll be able to cook a bit for yourself and not go to a restaurant for every meal.
3. Travel in off-season: I guess your plan is to go and visit Mykonos in summer. This is great, but if you want to save some money, it’s not the best option. It may not sound as sexy, but visiting the island in spring is a great way. The sun is usually not as hot, but lots of time, the weather is already great in May. So, if you’re traveling on a budget, you should be looking at May or early June. The island will be less packed, and there won’t be as many parties, but the price difference is quite huge compared with the summer months. I will get back on that a bit later.
So, as you’ve seen, the place you’re going to stay at is not the only thing that will impact the cost of your holiday.
Be sure to think well in advance when you prepare, and avoid hotels and high season months. This way, you’re putting everything on your side to find the best budget hotels in Mykonos and be able to travel for cheap.
What to Expect About Cheap Hotels in Mykonos Greece
As I have told you before, Mykonos is not exactly what we could call a budget destination. In the high season, anything under 150€/night for 2 people is cheap in Mykonos.
But as I’ve also told you, these prices vary a lot depending on which month you’re going. When going in off-season, you can find best cheap hotels in Mykonos Greece down to 60€ a night for 2 people.
And if swimming isn’t very important to you, or that you don’t mind cold water you can find cheap hotels down to 30€ a night!
To have a better idea of what cheap means depending on the month you’re visiting, here are some average rates.
Average Rate of Cheap Places to Stay – Mykonos:
- June: 70€ to 100€
- July: 100€ to 150€
- August: 120€ to 180€
So depending on the month you plan to go, the prices for a cheap Mykonos hotel might double. To me the best budget month is June, since the weather is already really nice, and the prices are not too high yet.
But if you really want the wildest parties, you’ll probably prefer visiting in July or August. The prices are not as cheap then, but if you book way in advance, you might still find some good deals.
The Best Cheap Hotels Mykonos Has to Offer
Since there are so few cheap options in Mykonos to stay at, I have put up a list of what I believe are the best budget accommodation options in Mykonos.
This way you won’t have to spend countless hours finding what you need. Just select the best one for you in this list!
THE Best Cheap Accommodation in Mykonos: Angela’s Rooms
- Great location
- Nice host
- Patio
Angela’s Rooms is the best cheap accommodation available in Mykonos in my eyes. It’s located just a few hundred meters away from Chora, the historical center, where you’ll find most of the restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
You’ll also find the bus stop close by, which will take you all around the island. And if you want to visit the neighboring island of Delos, the ferry is also very close!
Best Cheap Hostel in Mykonos: MyCocoon Hostel
- Airport shuttle
- Great decoration
- Swimming pool
If you like traveling in hostels, MyCocoon is the perfect place for you to stay as it’s the best cheap Mykonos hostels. It’s also located close to Chora, so you’ll find everything nearby.
Another great feature of MyCocoon is that the hostel can arrange your transportation to get you from the airport to the hostel. This might seem as a small advantage, but it can actually be quite a hassle to get from the airport to town. When staying here you won’t have to deal with that, and this is quite nice.
Cheap Accommodation Mykonos Has to Offer: Adonis Rooms
- Swimming pool
- Close to the beach
- Patio
Adonis Rooms is located on the south-eastern coast of the island, near Kalo Livadi beach. If you’re coming to Mykonos to enjoy the beach, this is a great option for you. Just a couple hundred meters away you’ll find the beautiful Kalo Livadi beach.
There are not as many restaurants and bars as in Mykonos Town, and getting around can be a bit more complicated, but the added tranquility and beauty of the place definitely make up for that.
This is definitely one of the best cheap places to stay Mykonos has to offer.
Cheap Apartment in Mykonos: Karma Suites
- Seafront
- Garden
- Terrace
Karma Suites is located just a few hundred meters away from the Ftelia beach, on the northern side of the island. The surroundings are pretty calm, so this is a perfect place to stay if you want to relax, and enjoy the sea to a maximum.
The view you get from here is also amazing, and covers both the sea and the hills behind the suites.
Pension Katerina Studios
- Pet friendly
- Seafront
- Close to town
Pension Katerina Studios is located less than one kilometer north from Mykonos Town, so while being outside of all the movement, you can easily get there by foot.
If you’re traveling with your pet, it’s quite hard to find somewhere to stay, especially if you’re looking for something cheap. So if this is the case, I hardly recommend you stay here, since it’s the only cheap accommodation that offers this option.
Makis Place
- Swimming pool
- Bar
- Airport shuttle
Located right in the middle of a big park, Makis Place is a beautiful place to stay at. You’ll be in Tourlos, about two kilometer north of Mykonos Town.
With its beautiful swimming pool, it’s an amazing place to stay if you want to relax. But its location still makes it easy to go to Mykonos Town and enjoy the restaurants, the shops, or the bars and the nightclubs.
Fraskoula’s Beach
- Seafront
- Great decoration
- Free airport shuttle
The Fraskoula’s Beach offers an amazing view of the Aegean Sea. It’s located just a couple hundred meters away from Agios Stefanos beach, in Tourlos. The town is not as big as Mykonos Town but you’ll easily find a few bars and restaurants around the accommodation.
And if you want to visit the rest of the island, it’s really easy here to rent a scooter, which is one of the best ways to visit Mykonos!
Coming to Mykonos on a tight budget is not easy, but definitely not impossible. And even the cheaper places are great, and offer all the benefits of staying on the island.
When visiting on a budget, you won’t get a hotel with a spa and a private beach, but the view, the parties and the sun will still be here, and these are the most important aspects of the island. (Btw, for hotels with private beach you can check 👉 this link 👈 ; but it’s more expensive)
