In this area, you’ll enjoy wide-open spaces close to the river Tangus and beautiful parks where your children will be happy to play. You’ll also be close to some of the touristic sights such as museums, the Monastery of Jeronimos, Belém Tower, etc.

Until 1879, this residential area was mostly surrounded by farms. Now, the area has changed a lot and houses lots of small independents shops, cafés and restaurants.
The main advantage: this district is not yet famous as a tourist place, so it’s pretty calm and quiet. Even if there’s not a lot of tourist attractions, it’s not a problem as it only takes a few minutes to reach the main sights thanks to the public transportation.

Lisbon Neighborhoods to Avoid for Families
Alfama
If you’re in Lisbon with your family, you definitely should avoid the neighborhood of Alfama.
The oldest district of Lisbon is nice but be warned that there are many steep hills which is not very convenient for children. Maybe it would be better for you to just spend a day to visit this place.
Moreover, this is the place to discover the cultural “Fado show” and to enjoy the local nightlife, so this district could be a bit noisy at the end of the day. You should avoid this neighborhood if you’re looking for a quiet place to relax with your family.
Bairro Alto
If you’re wondering where to stay in Lisbon with baby or kids, Bairro Alto is probably not the best option. I recommend exploring this very central district with young children during the day.
Indeed, the place becomes really different by night with lots of bars and clubs. It’s crowded with noisy people and loud music until late.
Bairo Alto is a party district you don’t want to stay in if you want to rest with your family at night.
Final Thoughts
As we saw above, if you’re wondering where to stay in Lisbon with toddler, the best option would be to go to Baixa.
However, if you’re looking for less crowded places, Belém or Campo de Ourique are good alternatives as they both districts are very peaceful and well connected to transportation.
Be aware that you should avoid Alfama and Bairro Alto districts since they are very noisy and very much party districts.
