Product Reviews – Best Lens for Sony a6400 for Vlogging
To pick a vlogging lens for your Sony a6400, there are a few things to look out for:
- image stabilization: the a6400 doesn’t have image stabilization built-in, so you’ll need a lens that has it
- wide focal length: to appear in the shot, you need a wide angle, from 10mm to 18mm maximum
- reliable & silent autofocus: the lens needs to focus on you all the time, and do it silently otherwise you’ll hear the autofocus sound in your vlog
- light & compact: because you’ll be holding out your camera in front of you all the time, you need a light lens that isn’t too massive
I’ve ranked the features above from most to least important, so that you know what to consider when picking the right lens. After carefully reviewing the options on the market for the a6400, I’ve selected 3 lenses that I recommend.
🥇 Overall Best: Sony E 10-18mm f/4 OSS
🎥 Vlogging + Video: Sony 18-105mm f/4 G OSS
💰 Budget Pick: Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN
Let’s see the reviews!

The Sony E 10-18mm f/4 OSS is the best Sony a6400 vlog lens, hands down.
First, it has a nice wide focal length, that will easily capture you in frame while holding the camera in front of you. And with a minimum focus distance of 9.84″ (25cm), you won’t have to worry about it focusing correctly on your face.
It also has OSS Optical Steady Shot, also known as image stabilization (great for the a6400 which doesn’t have it in-camera), so your videos won’t be all shaky.
One other great point about this lens is the weight: you’ll be holding the camera out, and the last thing you want is a lens that weighs a brick. It’s only 7.94 oz (225g), which is 45% lighter than the other options in this guide.
The main con is the price; it’s expensive, but you get what you pay for. To pay less, you’ll have to drop some features.
Image stabilization
Short minimum focus distance
Lightweight
Fast & quiet autofocus
Expensive
Issues to focus in low-light

Are you planning to have only 1 lens to film both yourself talking to the camera AND record cinematic footage for your videos?
Then the Sony 18-105mm f/4 G OSS is the perfect choice for you! With its huge focal range, it’s a great versatile lens that will allow you to do pretty much everything.
In fact, I consider this lens to be the best video lens for a6400, and the fact that you can even use it for vlogging makes it a great 2-in-1 lens.
It has a nice autofocus and built-in image stabilization. However it’s not as wide as the #1 lens, and it has a longer minimum focus distance (1.48ft / 45cm). If you have short arms, or would prefer holding the camera with your arm bent, it could be a problem. But for holding it with your arm extended like most vloggers do, it’s working just fine.
The second gripe I have with this lens is its weight and size; it’s bulky, and can be annoying to some.
Image stabilization
Fast & quiet autofocus
Great focal range
Heavy & bulky
Only 18mm wide

Best Budget Sony a6400 Vlog Lens: Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN
- Compatible with Sony E mount cameras
- Perfect for nature & event photography
- Large f/1.4 aperture for superb lowlight performance
Focal length: 16mm
Aperture range: f/1.4 to f/16
Weight: 405g (0.89 lbs)
Size (Ø x L): 72x92mm (2.84×3.63″)
Filter size: 67mm
Format: crop
Autofocus: yes
Image stabilization: no
And let’s end this guide with the last a6400 vlogging lens I would recommend: the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN.
At less than 50% of the #1 lens price, it’s the best choice for the budget conscious vlogger. But of course it means sacrificing on some features; it has no image stabilization, it’s bulky, and it’s a prime lens so you can’t zoom in/zoom out.
Now let’s see why I actually think it’s a great vlogging lens for Sony a6400 nonetheless (apart from the low price). It’s a wide lens at 16mm, and it has a short minimum focus distance (9.84″ / 25cm). And unlike the 2 previous lenses in this guide, it has a fast f/1.4 aperture, which means you’ll get a beautiful blurred background and you’ll stand out in your vlog.
All in all, this lens is a great choice if you’re on a budget, and it’s also the best Sony a6400 lens for vlogging indoor if you set it on a tripod.

Final Thoughts
Truth is, there isn’t a ton of choices out there for the best lens for a6400 vlogging.
I’ve included the only 3 that I would recommend in this guide, with a budget option, a versatile pick, and the overall best: the Sony E 10-18mm f/4 OSS.
It ticks all the boxes for vlogging: wide focal length, image stabilization, great autofocus, short minimum focus distance, and it’s lightweight. Definitely the best lens if you want to take your game to a new level!
