La Maddalena is the main city of the eponymous archipelago, but you can realistically stay anywhere on the islands. It is one of the most picturesque areas on the island, and is, for that reason, the best place to stay in Sardinia for couples.

There, you will find a peaceful natural reserve aiming at preserving some of the most beautiful beaches in the world! The marine ecosystem and the lush vegetation are safe in La Maddalena, making it a particularly stunning wild area, ideal for a romantic getaway.

On top of that, you will have access to boat rides and, of course, exceptional beaches. Due to its remote location, the archipelago is usually pretty relaxing and quiet, except during the summer, so make sure you’re not heading there during the warmest months of the year!

Where to Stay in La Maddalena

If you’ve decided to stay in La Maddalena and, trust me, you’ve made the right decision, you’ll need accommodation. But not just any hotel, you’ll want a fantastic holiday with your special someone… so here are my 3 personal recommendations, sorted by budget:

With its spacious rooms and overall spotlessly clean interior, the Excelsior is easily the best hotel you can find in La Maddalena. Located right in the middle of the harbor of the main town of the archipelago, it will give you prime access to the boats and ferries!

For those of you who are looking to take your trip with your loved one to an entirely new level, I give you the Hotel Cala Lunga, an incredible luxury hotel by the beachfront.

If you’ve picked Sardinia for your honeymoon, believe me, you’ve made a fantastic choice. I’m sure the island will give you both an unforgettable holiday, and that you’ll be certain you’ve made the right decision. And, if you want to make sure your honeymoon is the best it can be, then you should head to Villasimius, a particularly charming town located near Cagliari.

The main reason Villasimius is so great is because there are so many things you can do there. However, the best of them is for sure the paradisiacal beaches, where I’m sure you’ll want to spend most of your time. Aside from that, there are plenty of water activities you and your special someone could try, such as snorkeling or scuba diving, as well as interesting, ancient archeological sites to discover.

All in all, a lovely and romantic place!

Where to Stay in Villasimius

If you’re on a honeymoon, then picking your hotel will be a particularly important and difficult choice. And, if you want to have easy access to the tons of activities that await you in Villasimius, here are my top 3 hotels in the area, you just can’t go wrong with any of them:

There is no doubt in my mind that the Appartamenti Shardana is the best hotel in all of Villasimius.

There, you will enjoy beautiful decorations, a modern and fully equipped interior, and particularly comfortable beds. Besides, the outdoor area is pretty spacious and is a perfect relaxing spot.

✨ Luxury Choice: Palazzo Michelangelo

The Palazzo Michelangelo is the most luxurious and comfortable option in Villasimius: lifelong memories await you if you pick this hotel for your honeymoon!

Extremely calm, the complex is spacious and well-designed. There are magnificent swimming pools, as well as a responsive staff and an excellent breakfast.

Although it is pretty wide with lots of towns including Olbia, the entirety of Costa Smeralda is for sure a fantastic area for young couples, due to how much buzzing activity there is.

It also boasts some of the most stunning beaches of Sardinia such as the popular Cala di Volpe, and is for sure worth a shot: I’m sure that, during a trip with your loved one, you’ll mostly enjoy sunbathing on the sand and relaxing by the seaside.

Also, if you want to try the excellent, traditional Sardinian cuisine (or not!), there are tons of excellent restaurants you could go to, as well as bars and shops.

Be careful though, as this area can be fairly expensive and touristic, but you should be overall fine.

Where to Stay in Costa Smeralda

Because Costa Smeralda is so large, it can be pretty hard to decide on where to stay, as there are tons of decent hotels.

For those of you who are looking for a luxurious getaway in a particularly isolated location to enjoy all of the time in the world with your special someone, I give you Borgo Alba Barona Turismo Rurale.

I do believe that older couples are looking for an easily accessible, well-rounded experience for their holiday. And if that’s your case, then Cagliari is the place to go.

Cagliari is the capital of Sardinia, as well as its main transportation hub. It is most likely the first town you’ll visit when arriving on the island, meaning you won’t have to bother much to get there.

There are plenty of things to do in Cagliari. Whether you love history, architecture, the beach, Italian cuisine, or hikes, you’ll find all you need there. Therefore, this town with a distinct, authentic vibe is a well-rounded destination that anyone could enjoy. Be aware that there can be quite a lot of tourists though, just as the majority of Sardinia.

Where to Stay in Cagliari

Have you already tried to look for an accommodation in Cagliari? Then you must have realized that the town is much larger than others and that it can be nerve-wracking to find what you want most.

For this reason, I have narrowed them down to only 3 picks, sorted by budget:

Although it is also located on the Costa Smeralda, Porto Cervo is a unique destination, and I’m sure some couples will adore it. It is famous throughout all of Europe for being the Italian Saint-Tropez and features designer boutiques and fancy yachts. So, if you are looking for the most luxurious and fanciest area, this is where you and your loved one should head to!

There, even though the vibe is pretty different from the other areas on the list, you will find tons of bars, shops, and restaurants, and you are guaranteed to never run out of activities to try and sights to discover.

Be very careful though: this town is one of the most expensive ones in all of Europe.

Where to Stay in Porto Cervo

Because of how luxurious Porto Cervo is, it is definitely hard to find affordable accommodation. I believe that these 3 are the best 3 ones, so you can pick any of them:

This stunning accommodation offers maximum comfort with high-standard amenities, and is located right by the beach; you will even have a fully equipped and private portion of it, just for you!

💰 Budget Pick: Hotel Piccolo Pevero

Even though finding a cheaper hotel in such a fancy area as Porto Cervo, the Hotel Piccolo Pevero is the perfect compromise.

Located right by the beachfront, it has all you need. The rooms are spacious and clean, the location is overall peaceful and the breakfast is fresh and varied. Awesome!
