THE Best Place to Stay in Cinque Terre: Vernazza

find where to stay in cinque terre vernazza

Vernazza is located in the very heart of the Cinque Terre National Park. It’s full of tiny hidden streets, typical of the region. You’ll encounter a lot of stairs as the village is dramatically set on a cliff. The colored houses will soothe your aches, as well as the cliffs that will let you wonder about what lies ahead.

If you’re looking for the perfect gist of Italian coastline life, Vernazza is for sure the best area to stay in Cinque Terre. Indeed, not everybody wants to wander in the wild for a whole week. Well, by staying in Vernazza you might do that, but you could stay put in your village, let go of your car and just enjoy the village.

Vernazza is always animated. You can use your time to wander the many shops and restaurants, and in the meantime appreciate how beautiful the whole place is. In addition, the beach there is amazing which really makes the whole place a gem!

As it’s the best village where to stay at Cinque Terre, make sure to book early on. Availability is very scarce!

Pros
Most beautiful
Beach
Animated nightlife
Cons
Crowds
Scarce availability

Where to Stay in Vernazza

Have you fallen for Vernazza? Here are my 3 favorite accommodations for a stay in Vernazza:

✅ Best Hotel: Albergo Barbara

Although a low-ranked establishment, this place has a great service. The rooms are simple but clean, and the staff is extremely helpful. The perk is that it is relatively cheap compared to the many guest houses in the village. It is also one of the only hotels per sé.

The location is tremendous, I cannot emphasize this too much. Go there and enjoy your getaways even more by always coming back to the center of it all.

✨ Top Luxury Hotel: Fivestay Casa Gabriella

An apartment of complete and utmost luxury. It is spacious with a magnificent sea view, and totally brand new done in a very designed way.

This hotel is all-inclusive, and not a day will go by without you regretting your choice of spending your luxurious vacation in this magical place.

💰 Best Budget Hotel: Camere Anna

Cheap is not cheap quality in Vernazza. In Camere Anna you will find economic rooms for a small budget, which is nice. Being close to the train station is certainly a plus if you are traveling without a car.

On top of that you have a city view, really enjoyable because as seen before, Vernazza is a beauty!

Where to Stay in the Cinque Terre for the Beach: Monterosso

monterosso best place to stay in cinque terre

Monterosso is the biggest village in Cinque Terre. It’s surrounded by the romantic atmosphere of the seaside, come enjoy its sounds or its smells or both, you know it’s good.

It’s not shy of inspiring places, but you can also find classic resorts at your convenience. Large groups or families will love this place as it allows more movement.

Some places have really well-furnished gardens, and pools that will let you enjoy some days where you do not leave the hotel. Indeed, it’s mandatory for some as running around all the time can be exhausting.

The beach, one of the few sand beaches in Cinque Terre, is huge and beautiful and might spark a little remembrance of the Spanish Costa Dorada, except here it stops dramatically to let nature get its territory back. But not without having given you a nice space for your crew.

Being so big, this is where you have the best chance if you are booking really late in high season.

Pros
Large beach
Beautiful gardens
Availability
Cons
Less charming village
Crowded

Where to Stay in Monterosso

Have you fallen for Monterosso? Here are my 3 favorite accommodations for a stay in Monterosso:

✅ Best Hotel: Hotel 5 Terre Monterosso

Indeed, the best of Monterosso hotels is close to the beach. A very good choice too for family or friends, with a pool table in the unlikely event of bad weather.

The big plus, in a sophisticated and sweet environment, you might enjoy a massage in the garden.

✨ Top Luxury Hotel: Hotel Porto Roca

Hotel Porto Roca is the most luxurious hotel in Monterosso. In between sea and mountain, the location will take your breath away. The pool is on a cliff!

All-inclusive, you’re a little out of the village, but all the better you get the perks of Monterosso without the – small – inconveniences.

💰 Best Budget Hotel: Albergo al Carugio

The Albergo al Carugio, a one-star hotel has all its chips on the charm of the place. And it’s a success!

Only the price and the size of the room are economical. Service is very good, and that makes it the best option for small budgets.

Best Town to Stay in Cinque Terre for Hikers: Manarola

manarola one of the best places to stay in cinque terre

A big part of the village used to be an ancient medieval castle that was destroyed by the Genoan Fleet in the 15th Century. It sets the tone for a peculiar architectural style in the village of Manarola.

As a hiker, I love big old buildings with rich history as much as dramatic landscapes. It just says so much, and it sticks to the heart.

You’ll find there many guest houses and small family-run hotels. Hosts have been living their entire life there so they will be the perfect guides for your hikes and you’ll meet a lot of interesting people.

The whole village seems out of time, like a lost halt on the road to Compostelle, except with a magnificent sea view. Indeed a hiker’s paradise as the path starts right at the edge of the village.

Pros
Peculiar architecture
Incredible hospitality
Hikers’paradise
Cons
Remote
Low-key nightlife

Where to Stay in Manarola

Have you fallen for Manarola? Here are my 3 favorite accommodations for a stay in Manarola:

✅ Best Hotel: La Toretta Lodge

La Toretta Lodge is a part of the old castle! In the picturesque village of Manarola, it offers spectacular views of the stunning bay and the vineyards.

Among this beautiful nature, the service is just top-notch, and the way the place is decorated is something you have never seen before. Guaranteed.

✨ Top Luxury Hotel: Ca de Francu Luxuri

Ca de Francu Luxuri is one of the finest luxury hotels in Cinque Terre. The location will blow your mind, the quality of the apartment itself, and how about terrace views! The best luxury stay in Manarola.

Let the sea unravel before your eyes, and be amazed by how much it can bring you.

💰 Best Budget Hotel: Ca de Gianchi

Visiting a UNESCO World Heritage Site on a low budget is quite hard, especially in Cinque Terre. But I’ve found the cheapest: Ca’ de Gianchi.

The overlooking balcony and the location make it a luxurious stay, so I would say you get an insane value for money in this place. Availability is very scarce, take the chance if you can!

Best Village to Stay in Cinque Terre for Nightlife: Riomaggiore

riomaggiore the best village to stay in cinque terre

The open sea or the hills of the Cinque Terre National Park are your two choices in Riomaggiore.

Either way, it will be beautiful. Indeed, many accommodations offer some panoramic views.

The hosts in Riomaggiore will make you more comfortable than at home, and the Ligurian cuisine will satisfy your hungry desires. The village itself is gorgeous, but I’m sure one photo says it all.

Talking about nightlife, it is mainly dinner while watching the sunset. However, it might come down to several bars popular with tourists who search out the Ligurian coastline. In that regard, Monterosso and Riomaggiore are the best picks.

When looking for the best place to stay Cinque Terre has many options: I choose Riomaggiore for the vibrant energy that reigns here when the sun comes down. Be sure to check the Bar Centrale and La Conchiglia for a taste of Ligurian night out.

One does not stumble by chance in Cinque Terre, especially not in Riomaggiore, so all your encounters should be of high quality in your regard.

Pros
Nightlife
Panoramic views
Warm hospitality
Cons
Small
No beach

Where to Stay in Riomaggiore

Have you fallen for Riomaggiore? Here are my 3 favorite accommodations for a stay in Riomaggiore:

✅ Best Hotel: Cinque Terre Residence

Featuring a personal hot tub and panoramic terrace, you would not think such a place exists in such a typical village. And yet it does, for your greater pleasure.

The rooms are definitely of the greatest quality and the Cinque Terre Residence is set amongst the most raw environment Cinque Terre has to offer.

✨ Top Luxury Hotel: The First – La Vista di Marina

These apartments are designed to offer you the best view in town. It is not cheap, but the luxury is worth it. Breakfast is included and wonderful.

Perfectly located next to shops and boutiques, you can really enjoy a typical Ligurian lifestyle in this very very cozy place.

💰 Best Budget Hotel: Hotel Villa Argentina

Once again, the cheapest place in town comes with a lot of heart. It is an art-lover kinda place. If you spend your time in museums, this is the place for you in all Cinque Terre. If you wanna live among strong artistic energy, this is the place as well.

Availability is very scarce unfortunately, you might understand why. No? The location and staff are also incredible.

Couldn’t find the perfect place to stay in Riomaggiore? No worries, you can find more hotels in Riomaggiore here.

Where to Stay for Calm in Cinque Terre: Corniglia

find out where to stay cinque terre italy corniglia

Corniglia is the only Cinque Terre village with no access to the sea. Don’t be afraid, it has plenty more to offer. Like for example the 377 steps to climb up to the village.

Those two features might already make you understand why Corniglia is the best town in Cinque Terre to stay in if you need to relax.

You can feel it as well in the architecture which is slightly less grand than the other villages. The whole design of the streets is articulated around one main artery, which means if you’re not on this main street, Via Feschi, you will not hear a sound, except maybe the marine breeze flowing through the ancient vineyards. You can’t miss it when visiting.

Finally, Corniglia is located in the exact middle of the National Park, so it is visited a lot during the day, also thanks to St Peter’s church, a very special monument.

Pros
Quiet and peaceful
Among nature
Special atmosphere
Cons
No sea access
Busy during the day

Where to Stay in Corniglia

Have you fallen for Corniglia? Here are my 3 favorite accommodations for a stay in Corniglia:

✅ Best Hotel: B&B Da Beppe

With its historical location, overlooking an old medieval square next to the famous St Peter’s church, this place is just so good. The hosts are friendly and they make a neat Italian breakfast.

Perfect to relax in old, meaningful rocks.

✨ Top Luxury Hotel: Luxury Penthouse Sea View

This three-story penthouse comes with a private manager to help you spend the most soothing trip you can. The terrace lets you enjoy a breathtaking sea view.

It is not affordable and we understand why, as every little detail is taken care of. It reminds me of Swiss hospitality, which might be what you’re looking for.

💰 Best Budget Hotel: Daa Maduneta

Daa Maduneta is a sweet, warm, and pleasant stay. Once again, the price is low, but not the quality. Hosts are really keen on making you feel at home, and I feel like they don’t care so much about high prices.

Solo travelers, families, or couples, if you have availability, go for it!

Best Town in Cinque Terre to Stay Without the Crowds: Levanto

levanto a nice place where to stay near cinque terre

If you’re looking for which town to stay in Cinque Terre to avoid crowdedness, Levanto is for you!

Levanto is the northern gateway to the Cinque Terre National Park. Although it’s the most populated village in the area, it’s not the most touristic, so you’ll most probably avoid the crowds there. This is a relative statement as the whole of Cinque Terre is very much visited, so you might stumble across one or two tourists while you’re there.

There are many choices of accommodation, and availability is pretty good if you book in advance.

The seafront is quite classical in terms of sun vacation resort, you might not get the enchanting idea you have made yourself of Cinque Terre. But don’t worry, you’re only minutes away from the high cliffs and wild nature of the National Park.

Trekking paths start directly there, which makes Levanto a good option for people without a car.

Pros
Large seafront
Family oriented town
Availability year-round
Cons
Less dramatic landscape
Less charm

Where to Stay in Levanto

Have you fallen for Levanto? Here are my 3 favorite accommodations for a stay in Levanto:

✅ Best Hotel: Hotel Palazzo Vannoni

A true Italian palace! The service is not quite as sophisticated as if you were a lord; however, the very high ceiling might make you feel like nobility.

The rooms are gorgeous and the breakfast is amazing.

✨ Top Luxury Hotel: Park Hotel Argento

The main perk of the Park Hotel Argento is its wellness area. Turkish bath, sauna, emotional showers, take your pick, and come relax in this very special place.

The restaurant is very good and the rooms are of the finest quality.

💰 Best Budget Hotel: Agriturismo La Collina Verde

Cheap, but very charming. Your budget is safe in this place. However, availability is scarce so be sure to book early on!

It’s a classical old farm and is a new way of visiting a place, really taking part in the lives of the owners. Not for everybody, but why not try it if you never did?

Not sure to choose Levanto as your home for your Cinque Terre trip? These 15 hotel reviews will convince you!

Where to Stay Near Cinque Terre for Cheap: La Spezia

la spezzia best area to stay in cinque terre

La Spezia is a city, not a village, and is not in the Cinque Terre National Park. It is the second largest town in Liguria and the main economic one.

It is the door to Cinque Terre, and being a vibrant economical center, you will find it is way cheaper than the other places I have described earlier. It is offer and demand.

However, there are still some good tourist wanders to have in this typical Italian city. Your breath will not be taken away by the views but some museums and peculiar architectural entities might spark interest to you.

The lido, the harbor, and the Lerici castle are among the main sights along with the pretty colored houses that you will find again in all the other villages.

In short, La Spezia is perfect if you’re looking for where to stay near Cinque Terre! You can easily take the train to the National Park, but also to other Italian cities such as Pisa or Florence.

Pros
Cheap
Gateway to Cinque Terre
Economical center
Cons
Not charming
Unexciting overall

Where to Stay in La Spezia

Have you fallen for La Spezia? Here are my 3 favorite accommodations for a stay in La Spezia:

✅ Best Hotel: Affittacamere I Gatti delle 5 Terre

Not the cheapest option, but way cheaper than every accommodation in the National Park! This accommodation is especially good thanks to the host that takes special care of it, and you. W

ith a lot of good choices, this is my best pick in La Spezia for where to stay when visiting Cinque Terre.

✨ Top Luxury Hotel: The First – La Spezia 5 Terre

In this hotel, a large range of choices is available, so you can actually tailor-made your level of luxury. For example, you can have a sauna in your room.

It’s also ideally situated, which makes it one of the best places to stay near Cinque Terre!

💰 Best Budget Hotel: Lia Rooms 3

Yes, the bathrooms are shared. However, the quality of this place is very high compared with the price.

Indeed, when I look for a cheap place I want to sleep well, and Lia Rooms 3 does the job pretty well. It’s also very clean, and we know this can be scary sometimes!
