The Mirador del Valle Toledo is a simple stop on the road, outside of Toledo city limits.

It’s also the BEST VIEWPOINT over Toledo!

Not sure you should visit?

Well, here’s what to expect at the viewpoint:

Facts about Toledo

Are you fond of facts? I know I am! I love learning more about a place and its history with some quick & interesting facts, so I’ve gathered a few about Toledo for you:

  • Toledo was already a fortified city in 59 BC, and was named Toletum
  • it’s nicknamed Ciudad de las Tres Culturas (City of the Three Cultures), for the mix of 3 cultures: Christians, Muslims and Jews. You can see the 3 influences all over the city, with several different historic buildings
  • the city is also famous for making bladed weapons
  • in 1986 the city was listed as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO

The Best View of Toledo

I usually plan my travels. Ok I’m actually a planning freak and plan everything.

This time, I had absolutely not planned anything about this trip to Spain. At the last minute, I was sent to Madrid for work, and I didn’t have time to prepare my trip like I usually do.

But I knew one thing: I wanted to explore the cities around Madrid!

The very little planning I did was to choose 3 cities to visit during the weekend, before heading back to Paris: Segovia, Avila and Toledo.

the alcazar de segovia and the segovia cathedral in the distance

After exploring Segovia and Avila, I was ready to discover the last city on the list, Toledo. I left Avila after sunset, and drove 2 hours to reach Toledo. I arrived around 11pm, and I was way too tired to do anything.

I prepped my gear for the next day, chose where I wanted to go for sunrise, and passed out.

The next morning, I woke up very early around 5am, ready to kickstart the day and go on a walking tour of Toledo.

I hopped in my car, drove to the viewpoint I had located on Google Maps, and as soon as I got there, was blown away by the incredible view.

The entire city of Toledo was laid out before my eyes, and it was the perfect first impression of the city. This spot is so amazing, because you are directly south of the city, and you see the city nestled in the bend of the Tagus river.

I was rewarded for waking up early, and got to enjoy this view without anyone around, with a beautiful sunrise.

From the Toledo Mirador del Valle, you can see the whole city, and see the iconic monuments of Toledo.

The most noticeable building is the Alcazar de Toledo, the epic castle overlooking the city.

The massive yet refined castle is a symbol of Toledo, and the Mirador del Valle is one of the best spots to see it.

One of the other iconic monuments that you can see from the mirador is the Toledo Cathedral, with its bell tower sticking out above the roofs in the center of the city.

And the last iconic monument you can see from the viewpoint is the Jesuit Church, with its twin bell towers and blue dome.

For me the Mirador del Valle is truly the best place if you want to see the city of Toledo. This is the classic postcard photo, and if you only have time for one single thing in the city, this is where you should go.

Can you spot my car on the photo? The viewpoint is right where I parked it!

If you want to take your experience one step further, go to the hotel on the hill, Parador de Toledo. They have a terrace where you can go and enjoy a drink, while you feast your eyes on this incredible view!

Well I’m sure you expected the 5/5 for the view with a title like “Best View”.

As the title says, the view from the Mirador Toledo is the best view you can have over the city.

What makes it so epic is that it offers a view over the whole city, and that you can see most of the iconic sights of Toledo in a glance. From the viewpoint, you can also see the unique shape of the city, built in the bend of the Tejo river.

Price :$g: :$g: :$g: :$g: :$g:

Pretty hard to beat this spot on price, as it’s 100% free.

It’s simply an open spot with no restriction of access whatsoever, and it’s always open & free.

Effort :hike: :hike: :hikeg: :hikeg: :hikeg:

The viewpoint is directly south of the city, outside of the city walls, and across the river. To reach it, you’ll have to cross to river; however, there is no way to cross the river next to the viewpoint, which makes it a bit hard to reach.

:hike: Walk

From the Alcazar de Toledo, it’s a 36 minutes walk to reach the viewpoint.

Depending on where you are in the city, you’ll need to cross the river using one of the 2 bridges: Puente del Alcantara or Puente de San Martin. You can then walk along the road (there’s a sidewalk), to go all the way up the viewpoint!

Car

If you have a car, it’s only a short 10 minutes drive to reach the viewpoint. Be aware that it’s a small road, and if you go up there during the day there might be traffic blocking the road.

Nice bonus, there is free parking right in front of the viewpoint. There are limited parking spots however, and you might not be able to find a spot if you come in the afternoon during peak season.

Mirador de Toledo Tickets

You don’t need to buy a ticket to visit this viewpoint. It’s free to access.

El Mirador de Toledo: free

How to Get to Toledo

You can either get to Toledo by car, or by train.

By car

Toledo is a perfect day trip from Madrid, and from other Spanish cities. You’ll find below the driving time from nearby cities:

From Madrid: 1h

From Segovia: 1h35

From Valencia: 3h30

It’s difficult to drive and park in the city; the best option is to find a parking outside of the city walls, then walk to the center.

When you’ll reach Toledo, head to the north east of the city, right outside of the city walls. This is where you’ll find the cheapest parking options, and the most parking spaces available.

Where to Stay Near the Mirador de Toledo

If you’re visiting Toledo, you have several options for where to stay. You’ll find below hotels depending on your travel style:

Budget: Albergue Juvenil Los Pascuales

Cheapest accommodation in Toledo, for around 14€ per night.

This youth hostel is only 2 minutes away from the Toledo Cathedral and the Toledo Castle. It also comes with included breakfast!

Comfy: Hotel San Juan de los Reyes

The Hotel San Juan de los Reyes is my favorite accommodation for a comfy stay in Avila, for around 75€ per night.

It’s ideally located in Toledo, a short walk from all the main sights. The beds are pretty comfy, and the included breakfast makes it a perfect choice for your stay in Avila. You’ll also enjoy free parking (which is nice in Toledo), and spacious bathroom with a hydro-massage bathtubs, perfect to relax after a long day of exploration in the city.

Luxury: Almunia de San Miguel

The best hotel in Toledo, hands down.

The Almunia de San Miguel has everything you’ll need, and even more: free parking, breakfast included, incredible rooms, and the location… The hotel is right next to the castle and the cathedral, you can’t be closer! There’s even a rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the city.
