THE BEST Place to Stay in Seville: Barrio Santa Cruz

Barrio Santa Cruz is one of the best places to stay if you want to be right in the middle of everything. It’s the old Jewish quarter, packed with narrow alleys, quiet courtyards, and little plazas lined with orange trees.

You’ll be just a few minutes’ walk from major sights like the Cathedral and the Alcázar, so it’s super convenient for sightseeing.

The area has a laid-back, almost village-like feel once the daytime crowds leave. There are plenty of tapas bars, boutique hotels, and spots to sit outside with a drink.

It’s central, scenic, and easy to explore on foot.

Where to Stay in Seville with Kids: El Arenal

El Arenal is a great choice for families who want to stay close to the main attractions without being right in the middle of the busiest streets.

It sits along the river, just west of the Cathedral, and offers a quieter, more spacious feel than neighboring Santa Cruz. The area is home to the Maestranza bullring, the Torre del Oro, and several small plazas where kids can run around.

You’ll find plenty of casual restaurants, ice cream spots, and wide sidewalks perfect for strollers. It’s also a short walk to the riverside promenade and the Parque de María Luisa for more outdoor space.

It’s known for its colorful buildings, traditional tile workshops, and deep flamenco roots. The Mercado de Triana is a must for grabbing snacks or casual lunch, and riverside walks offer some of the best sunset views in the city.

In the evening, you’ll find cozy tapas bars and smaller flamenco venues that feel more authentic than the big shows across the bridge.

It’s close enough to walk to major sights, but with a slower, more romantic pace.

Best Neighborhood to Stay in Seville for Nightlife: Alameda

The area draws a younger, local crowd and has everything from casual tapas joints to craft cocktail bars and live music venues. It’s great for bar-hopping or grabbing dinner outside on a terrace.

During the day, it’s more laid-back, with vintage shops and coffee spots. You’re still within walking distance of the city center, but the vibe here is more modern, artsy, and relaxed.

The Areas to Avoid in Seville 

Seville is a safe city overall, so no need to worry about that. But if I had to list some areas, it would be these ones below.

But, you shouldn’t find yourself there as a traveler as there’re basically nothing interesting to see. 

• Polígono Sur (Las 3000 Viviendas): Located in Seville’s far south, this area is known for high poverty and crime rates. It has no tourist infrastructure and is considered unsafe, especially at night. 
• Cerro-Amate: A residential district southeast of the center, far from major sights. It lacks charm, feels disconnected, and has limited appeal for visitors.
• Su Eminencia: Also in the southeastern part of Seville, this area is mainly residential, with few services or transport links for tourists. It’s not unsafe, just not practical or interesting for a stay.
• Outskirts of La Macarena: While the central part near the Basilica is fine, the farther north you go, the more rundown and less connected it becomes. Limited accommodation and fewer dining options.
• Torreblanca: Located on the eastern outskirts, Torreblanca is a working-class suburb with no attractions or atmosphere for visitors. It’s far from the center and inconvenient for sightseeing.

➡️ As a traveler, stick to Seville’s city center, which includes the neighborhoods of Barrio Santa Cruz, El Arenal, Museo, Alfafa, Triana, and Alameda.
