Where to Stay in Mykonos for Family
Mykonos is mostly known as a party island, and might not be the first place that comes to mind for a family holiday.
But while you’ll probably avoid the big party districts such as Paradise Beach or Super Paradise Beach, there are some areas of the island that are well suited for families. These are:
👉 Best Overall: Ornos
👉 Runner Up: Platis Gialos
👉 Less Crowds: Agios Stefanos Beach
To have a better idea of what you might expect out of each area, you’ll find in the next section a deeper dive and explanation of what every one of them is about. All of them have that in common that they are great to enjoy the Greek sun, but depending on what you expect out of your vacation, one might be better suited than the other.
You’ll see, you might spend the best family holidays ever there!
THE Best Place to Stay in Mykonos with Family: Ornos
Ornos is located just one kilometer southwest of Mykonos Town, right in between the main part of the island and its western most part.
Being located so close to Mykonos Town, not only is it really easy to get there, but you’ll stay close to the main transportation network of the island, so you’ll easily get anywhere on the island, even without a car. And if you want to visit the island in its entirety, you can just rent a car for one day. You won’t miss it the rest of the time.
And of course, Ornos itself is amazing for families. There are many beaches, every single one more beautiful than the others. The town also offers quite a few restaurants and shops you’ll most certainly enjoy, while still not being as crowded as Mykonos Town.
Runner Up Mykonos Area for Families: Platis Gialos
Platis Gialos is located a bit further south from Mykonos Town than Ornos. It offers lots of space and kids will love to run around on the beach, especially in the morning, when the beaches are not too crowded yet.
The area is filled up with little coves, which are all absolutely breathtaking. And if you’re lucky, you might find one that doesn’t attract too many people.
All the beaches are amazing, and feeling their fine sand in between your toes is a complete blast. Both you, and your children will love it. They’ll probably make the most beautiful castles out of it, right in front of the Aegean sea.
Great Place for Families with Less Crowds: Agios Stefanos Beach
Located north of Mykonos Town and the new port, Agios Stefanos is an area that is less crowded than the previous ones. The beach itself is a little bit less beautiful, but is well protected from the wind. And since it’s located on the western coast of the island, you’ll get the most amazing sunsets here.
Being located so close to the harbor, the area is also really well connected, both by land and by sea. You can easily hop on a bus to get to Mykonos Town, or a Sea Bus that can take you all the way to the neighboring island of Delos.
So depending on what’s more important to you, you’ll be better suited by staying in one of these 3 areas. If you’re not sure, just go to Ornos, it’s a safe bet.
Now, to make your trip’s preparation even easier, I’ve selected the best hotels for families in every district.

Best Hotels in Mykonos for Families – Platis Gialos
If Ornos doesn’t seem the best place for you to stay, Platis Gialos is probably a great choice. Just as in Ornos, here you’ll find some of the best hotels in Mykonos for families.

- Beautiful view
These fully equipped apartments all offer a small terrace, from which you’ll be able to enjoy the amazing view you probably came to Mykonos for. It’s also perfect to have dinner with the whole family.
It’s located just a couple minutes away from the Agios Stefanos Beach, which will make it really easy to get to the sea every day.
Depending on what you like, and what you expect out of your trip to Mykonos, one of these hotels and areas will probably suit you better than the others.
And now that we’ve taken a look at where to stay in Mykonos with family, we’re going to look really quickly at the places you should avoid.
Where NOT to Stay in Mykonos for Families
If you’re coming to Mykonos as a family, most of the island will suit you perfectly. However, you should avoid a few areas where people go to party. Paradise Beach and Super Paradise Beach are the main places you want to avoid. There, parties are going all day and all night long.
Mykonos Town is a great place to visit, but to stay as a family it’s probably not the best. There’s no beach nearby, so getting your kids to the sea will be more difficult. Parties at night are also usually pretty loud, and finding a bigger hotel where you’ll easily get a big room or a couple of rooms for everybody is also usually harder in Mykonos Town.
But besides that, you should be fine about anywhere on the island!
